CSAF, Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force visit Warren members

F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. --  Members of 20th Air Force and the "Mighty Ninety" 90th Missile Wing welcomed the Air Force chief of staff and chief master sergeant of the Air Force, Nov. 18 and 19, to F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., showcasing the nuclear deterrence mission.

Gen. Mark A. Welsh III and Chief Master Sgt. James Roy visited the men and women of Warren as part of Welsh's first tour of the nation's intercontinental ballistic missile force and his first visit to Warren as the chief of staff.

During their visit, Welsh and Roy met with the Airmen who support the nuclear enterprise, performing this vital deterrence mission non-stop, around the clock.

They attended a pre-departure briefing with missileers from the Mighty Ninety at the 90th Operations Group before boarding a 37th Helicopter Squadron UH-1N Huey helicopter to see Warren's Missile Alert Facility Echo-01.

Welsh and Roy shared a few words as the missileers prepared to start their day.

"The bottom line in the Air Force is performance, and you all do this every day," Welsh said. "The Air Force's number one priority is safeguarding our nuclear enterprise, and the bedrock of that priority is right here."

Prior to departing the 37 HS, 90th Security Forces Group members demonstrated and briefed the Air Force leaders on the capabilities of the members of the 90th Security Forces Tactical Response Force.

Welsh and Roy toured the Echo-01 launch control center, where 1st Lt. Garret Glover and 2nd Lt. Matt Beck, both from the 319th Missile Squadron, described their responsibilities as a missile combat crew.

Back topside, members of the 90 SFG security response team, fire team and camper alert team demonstrated the equipment they use in their nuclear security mission.

The visit concluded with an Airman's Call where more than 1,200 members of 20th Air Force and the 90th Missile Wing gathered to meet with Welsh and Roy to hear their vision for the future of the Air Force.

"The key to our continued success is attracting the best people, retaining these individuals and providing them with the best training and equipment possible," said Welsh. "The people of the Air Force are my main priority and that's why we're here today."

Roy echoed Welsh's remarks, adding, "We're here to thank not only you for the sacrifices you make for our country but also those of your family's. We're thankful for all of you."
