MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. --

Malmstrom Air Force Base opened its gates to the public last weekend, welcoming approximately 13,000 members of Great Falls and surrounding communities to the 2019 “Mission Over Malmstrom” Open House held on July 13 and 14.

The two-day event featured aerial acts, exhibits and guided tours which offered experiences highlighting the mission of Malmstrom AFB and the capabilities of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Some of the aerial performances included the Air Combat Command’s F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and UH-1N Iroquois stationed at Malmstrom AFB. A B-2 Spirit from Whiteman Air Force Base and C-130 Hercules transport aircraft from the Montana Air National Guard performed flyovers with accompanying pyrotechnic displays.

Attendees got hands-on with interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics exhibits. From virtual reality to robotics, flight simulators to the local Civil Air Patrol, patrons enjoyed a host of STEM experiences.

Guided tours ran every half hour and gave inside looks into Malmstrom’s daily operations. Rob Turnbow, museum director, walked attendees through the history of the Malmstrom Museum and Air Park. Visitors explored the T-41 launch facility trainer, a realistic, one-to-one replica of the launch facilities throughout the missile field used by missile maintainers and security forces defenders. Missileers demonstrated their profession in the Missile Procedure Trainer and let guests take the launch controls.

On behalf of Team Malmstrom, thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and most of all, community for helping us make the 2019 “Mission Over Malmstrom” Open House a success.
