F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The 20th Air Force named the 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron Material Managment’s Customer Support Team their candidate for the 2022 General Mark A. Welsh III "One Air Force" Award, Dec. 7, 2021, on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming.
The 2022 General Mark A. Welsh III "One Air Force" Award is an Air Force-level award, which recognizes mission success achieved by a team made up of two or more Total Force components. The award recognizes the team that best demonstrated improved effectiveness, operational readiness or mission accomplishment through integrated solutions.
Master Sgt. Jamie Smith, material management superintendent, shares that the team implemented a weekly training program and a comprehensive Career Development Course (CDC) testing system for those in Upgrade Training (UGT). These steps allowed for a higher level of knowledge and dedication toward learning the job.
“Teaching people how to fish and holding people accountable for their programs, along with gaining versatility and depth within the ranks by giving more responsibility, took away from having a single point of failure,” says Smith. “Also, having effective communication and problem solving before making a decision allows for better decisions and solutions to the customer and the end product.”
LRS consistently wins awards, such as the Cheyenne Trophy, presented by the Governor of Wyoming, as well as the Air Force Global Strike Command’s Best Practice award for the Annual Munitions inspection.
“It’s been clear to me since I’ve arrived at this base that the Customer Support Team within LRS walks proudly and talks confidently when it comes to communication, managing programs and truly caring while doing so across the squadron, group, and wing,” says Smith. “The passion from the people involved in winning this award makes them Materiel Management rock stars who complement each other and provide a no fail approach to the Command. The Airmen, NCOs and civilians all played a vital role in the 90th Missile Wing mission, and winning this award just highlights that fact. Additionally, it’s such an honor that our squadron, group, wing and NAF leaders recognized LRS for this award for their efforts.”
Through earning this award - and others - the Material Management team is recognized for being the best team amongst its peers in supporting the 90 MW mission by performing at the highest level.
As a support entity, much of what this unit does is behind the scenes, so in their line of work, success can only be achieved through consistent excellence over time,” said Maj. Ayana Tuchscherer, 90 LRS commander. “They are running a marathon that requires long-term drive and determination to ensure that unseen tasks are performed to the highest standard possible and the support they provide is the lifeblood that pumps through the heart of F.E.’s mission set, so acknowledging them is incredibly meaningful."
