Activation of the ‘Global Twentieth’ – Commemorating Seventy-Five Years

A declassified message from Gen. Carl Spaatz, Commander, US Army Strategic Air Forces, to Brig. Gen. Lauris Norstad, Twentieth Air Force Chief of Staff, dated 7 Aug 1945. Following up on his inspection of “Baker Two Nine (B-29) operations” in the Pacific Theater, Gen. Spaatz relayed his impression that the Twentieth Air Force was “the best organized and most technically and tactically proficient military organization that the world has seen to date.” (Courtesy photo)
